Dr. Salah El-Haggar

Dr. Salah El-Haggar has more than 30 years’ experience in energy and sustainable development consulting and university teaching. Dr El-Haggar was a visiting professor at Washington State

University and at the University of Idaho, U.S.A. He is currently a professor of Energy and Sustainable Development – Mechanical Engineering Department at the American University in Cairo. Dr. El-Haggar’s has 24 Academic Honors, grants and awards. He received the outstanding teaching award from AUC in 1995 as well as several outstanding trustees’ awards. In 2009, Dr. El-Haggar received the Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavour Award from the American University in Cairo. In 2012, Dr. El-Haggar received the Provost Award in recognition of innovations in environmental science and engineering as well as the distinguished service award for 25 years of services at the American University in Cairo. Dr. Haggar has 230 Scientific Publications in the environmental, sustainable development, and energy fields, in addition to 53 invited presentations, 57 technical reports, 14 books, and 5 book chapters.

Dr. El-Haggar is also involved in several major construction projects in Egypt going for LEED certification. He was an active partner in the very first LEED Platinum project in Egypt and North Africa: The Credit Agricole Egypt Headquarters in New Cairo and the LEED Gold certified Dar Al Handasah new premises in Smart Village, Giza. His project portfolio also includes the Mall of Egypt, Zewail City for Science & Technology, Union National Bank Office in Mohandiseen, The Gate in Heliopolis and the National Bank of Egypt in the New Administrative Capital.

Eng. Sherine Fahmy

Engineer Sherine Fahmy received a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from The American University in Cairo, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Engineering from the same university.

She is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified Senior Management Trainer and Co-Active Coach. She helped pioneer the beginnings of the Green Building movement in the Middle East. Starting in the UAE, she managed projects that worked on earning LEED Certification for over 70 commercial buildings and on making them more environmentally sustainable. As a LEED Consultant and adjunct faculty at the American University in Cairo, she is involved in several major construction projects in Egypt going for LEED certification.

She was an active partner in the very first LEED Platinum project in Egypt and North Africa: The Credit Agricole Egypt Headquarters in New Cairo and the LEED Gold certified Dar Al Handasah new premises in Smart Village, Giza and the LEED Gold certified Mall of Egypt. Combining over 20 years of experience in environmental consulting and training with business skills coaching, she has also delivered training courses to many corporate clients and graduate university students on both the areas of management skills, environmental sustainability and LEED concepts. Sherine is Associate Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Egypt Green Building Council, prospective member of the World Green Building Council, a nonprofit NGO with the objective of promoting the culture of Green Building in Egypt. With the help of a group of volunteers, Sherine is laying the foundation for a strong and effective green building council, also responsible for the development of TARSHEED, the green building rating system developed specially for Egypt
